There are two organs in the Studios, one a four manual Compton (shown
above) and the other a three manual Compton. There is also a collection of
Musical Boxes, Juke Boxes, Player Pianos and Automata.
Monthly Theatre
Organ Concerts have been held for the past 30 years and the Organ is featured on 'The
Organist Entertains' on Radio 2, played by the owner, Ronald Curtis. The Organ is
from the Paramount Theatre in Liverpool, hence its name, and is one of the largest ever
built by the John Compton Organ Company. It has a full accompaniment of Theatre
Organ effects such as Bird Whistles, Klaxon Horn, Steamboat Whistle, Auto Horn, as well as
Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Vibraphone and Cathedral Chimes, etc.

There is also
another three manual Compton Theatre Organ from the Odeon Theatre, Gateshead,
(pictured above) complete with illuminated console which changes colours. This is also playable from the other
four manual console, either independently or combined with the other Organ.
Concerts are held
periodically throughout the year, although the monthly concert is always held on the
second Sunday of each month when a Theatre Organist of note is engaged to play.
The organ is
available, by arrangement, for private practice at £10 per hour, to cover running and
repair costs to the organ. If anyone is interested, please ring beforehand to
arrange an appointment. |
