Originally named the
Eastbourne Organ Society, our Club started in 1976. The founders were Mr. John
Thompson and his wife, ably assisted by Mr. Mick Leary. Mick will be known to many
'organ nuts' by his business name of Emjay Music and his own organ society at Hadlow Down.
Tony Back was our first President. The earliest meetings were held in
members' houses but the Society soon had to move to a public venue. Several rooms
and halls were tried, including a public house. In 1985 the Westham Village Hall,
some three miles from Eastbourne, was chosen and continues to be our venue. There
would be advantages in finding a more central location but our members enjoy the informal
atmosphere at Westham. |

A few years ago the Society was
re-named the Eastbourne Organ Club and in 1993 was again changed to include the words
"and Keyboard" as a move to widen the scope of interest and to increasing our 80
strong membership. Our monthly concerts are still provided by professional
organists.
We are fortunate in having a close
contact with Bonners, the Eastbourne organ and instrument centre, who are always willing
to provide all their new customers with details of our Club's concerts. etc. |

The past 12 years have been under the guidance
of Mr. Roland Acott as our Chairman. He retired with all honours and life membership
in 1997. our new Chairman, Mr. Ted Fowles, is now taking a very active part in taking a
growing Club into the new millennium. A Further change was the election of Mr. John
Dalley as the President of the Club. John is well known around the circuit and whilst
resident in Eastbourne is well placed to keep contact with, and take an interest in the
Club. These changes have also created opportunities for the social side of the
membership to be improved.
