HISTORY ... BOLTON & DISTRICT ELECTRONIC ORGAN SOCIETY was formed in 1973 by a stalwart few with laid down objectives to unite all organ enthusiasts in Bolton and surrounding districts. Today, of course, that would have to be described as 'Organ and Keyboard enthusiasts'. In the early years, monthly concerts
were held in local clubrooms, leading to a major move to a new venue in the
ballroom of a town centre hotel. While potential looked good, unfortunately
the attendance decreased, due to a number of reasons. There was no
convenient parking, the venue was laid out in theatre style seating and
there was a lack of social atmosphere. The committee realised that action
was needed fast before we disappeared off the scene, and found a small
clubroom outside the town centre situated on a main road with easy access to
outlying districts and the Motorway. Our first concert at this venue was in
January 1992. We made steady progress and on some concert nights we were
going out to the bowls clubhouse to carry in extra seats. After a couple of
years, however, we knew we had to consider moving again to a larger room and
this we did in January 1995. We continued to build up our attendance but in
doing so started to learn some valuable lessons. The room was well furnished
and comfortable but there was restricted parking and this was a cause of
considerable frustration to a lot of our members. We knew we had to move
again, but the next move would have to be the right one and the final one. A
long standing member suggested a venue outside the main town in an area
where a lot of development was due to take place. The Committee visited the
prospective venue, fell in love with it and had no hesitation in moving to
the RMI Club at Horwich for the January 1997 concert.
Situated alongside the club there is ample parking in the club car park with floodlighting. Full bar facilities are available with Hot Lancashire Pasties during the interval. The club is well situated on a main road with direct and easy access from the M61 Motorway (Junction 6) and main routes from Bolton, Manchester, Chorley, Wigan and surrounding areas. ABOUT US ... We like to consider ourselves a friendly, almost family club and this we consider very important. Our attendances are now higher than in previous years - membership now stands at 200+ ... and rising. If you live within easy travelling distance, come along and see us - you will be very welcome. If you need any help, advice, or a programme and map, then please email us with your address. |
